Applying For An Eta To Travel To Canada

Applying for an eTA to Travel to Canada

eTA Requirements for Visa-Exempt Travelers

Effective March 15, 2016, visa-exempt foreign nationals require an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to fly or transit through a Canadian airport. If you are no longer eligible for an eTA, you must apply for a visitor visa instead.

Applying for an eTA

Applying for an eTA is a simple online process that can be completed within minutes. You will need the following information:

  • Your passport number and expiration date
  • Your email address
  • A credit or debit card

Once you have gathered the necessary information, visit the Government of Canada's official website to apply for an eTA. The application fee is CA$7.

Getting Help with Your Application

If you have any questions before you apply for an eTA, or if you encounter issues during or after you apply, you can get help from the following resources:

  • The Government of Canada's eTA information website
  • The Government of Canada's Call Centre for eTAs
  • Your local Canadian embassy or consulate

Remember to apply for your eTA before you book your flight to Canada. Allow yourself ample time for the application process, as it may take up to 72 hours for your eTA to be approved.
